Conference
Field Trips

Field
Trips:
Bike
Riding and Roller Blading
There are numerous bike paths throughout Ventura and with the host
hotel
located on the ocean adjacent to the beach bike path. I would
encourage
all conference attendees to avail themselves to the opportunity to
rent
a beach cruiser or mountain bike and explore this pedestrian and
bicycle
friendly community.
Cycles 4 Rent
will
make available for the whole conference bikes, roller blades, and
electric
scooters at a reduced rate for the week and will be available on site
at the hotel Wednesday and Thursday to sign out the
equipment.
Advance
reservations
are requested if possible at
cycles4@cycles4rent.com or call 805-652-0462.

River to River
Bike Ride
This is
a flat and easy bike ride utilizing the beach bike path to view two of
Venturas greatest natural assets, the Ventura and the Santa
Clara
Rivers. The Ventura River has recently taken on a heightened level of
scrutiny with the listing of the Steelhead Trout on the Endangered
Species
list. The Santa Clara River holds the distinction of being the largest
transporter of sand to the coast, more than any other river on the
West
Coast.
This ride is 8
miles
roundtrip and just the thing to work up an appetite before dinner.
Departs
hotel at 4:45 and returns at 8:00 (Note: This ride can be used to join
up at the harbor with the Sunset Cruise).
Harbor
Cruise
As this
goes to print we are working out the final details for a Friday night
wine and cheese reception and harbor cruise in the Ventura Harbor.
There
are numerous restaurants in the harbor area so plan on having
dinner harborside
after the cruise.

Bike Ride to
Matilija
Dam
Bicycle to Matilija Dam utilizing the newly constructed
Ventura River
Trail. This is a 36-mile round trip excursion on predominately flat to
gently rolling terrain that traces the path of sand from the Ojai
to the
sea. We will explore the base of the Dam and the surrounding area.
This ride departs
the hotel at 9:30 am and will return at 3:30 pm.
If there is
sufficient
interest we can arrange for a van tour in addition to the bike
ride.
Channel
Islands
Ventura is the gateway to the Channel Islands and tours can be
arraigned
by calling Island Packers at (805) 642-1393, or pulling up their
Web Page
at Island Packers.com and
making
reservations for sightseeing or kayaking. There will be an information
table in the lobby with field trip information and sign up sheets.
